Artist's bioBorn in Ottawa, Canada, Suzanne Marsden has been drawing and writing ever since she could hold a pencil. A Bells Corners Arts League Award winner and OAC & Staff Award winner in Fine Arts, Marsden went on to study at the University of Ottawa and later pursued animation at Algonquin College.
Marsden’s passion for comics and illustration lead her to launch the Ottawa Comic Jam group in 2009, held monthly at the Shanghai Restaurant. Following this success, she lead several workshops promoting comic-making during Chinatown Remixed and the Ottawa Mini-Maker Fair. She has illustrated five children’s educational books with Swordfish Toys in Australia as well as three children’s picture books with author Bobby Salvin. Their first publication, Naughty Nutcap won the Daryn Tsuji Prize in Canadian Stories magazine, 2013. Marsden is a current member of the Art Mad Artists of Stittsville, a painting group that meets regularly to share creativity and support in a positive environment. She has participated in numerous group art shows with the AMAS, as well as Highjinx Ottawa and the Shanghai Restaurant. Currently, Suzanne continues to coordinate the monthly Ottawa Comic Jam and freelances as an illustrator through DragonHead Studio. |
The Art Mad Artists of Stittsville |
As a group who began our artistic exploration within the studio walls of Art Mad, we continue to support and encourage each other weekly. Our sole purpose is to pursue our love of creating independent art and to develop our own artistic style in a casual group setting.

The Ottawa Comic Jam |
The Ottawa Comic Jam is a group of comic artists, writers and enthusiasts that meets at the Shanghai Restaurant on the last Wednesday of the month (except December). The Jam is a great way to meet new people, talk comics, draw together and encourage creativity. Themes are determined on a monthly basis and artwork can be of an adult nature. Artwork is collected at the end of the evg and posted regularly.
